Michael Franti is a composer, poet and musician who uses his music as a platform for raising awareness for issues of peace and social justice. The adopted son of Carole and Charles Franti, Michael began writing poetry in his early college years, laying the foundation for a career in music. His early writing reflected his influences of hip hop, reggae and punk and soon he became known for his politically charged lyrics that mirrored his social conscious. As the years progressed his music and his message evolved in to a captivating platform to lay bare issues of war, corporate globalization, world-wide poverty and human rights. Franti's audiences and influences grew and he is known as a worldwide promoter of global and community peace and human rights.

In 2001 Franti was awarded the Domestic Human Rights Award by Global Exchange. He has travelled to Israel, Palestine and Iraq using his music as a medium to connect with those on the front lines of global violence. Franti currently supports numerous organizations such as CARE, a leading international humanitarian organization fighting global poverty, War Child International, an international independent network of organizations helping children affected by war, Amnesty International and Common Ground Relief, a community-initiated volunteer organization providing disaster relief. He is also the founder of Power to the Peaceful, the largest free music public event in California, uniting communities and organizations to foster peace.
