The Camille Armstrong Memorial Stepshow is held annually as a fundraiser for the Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship. The show features creative and rhythmic steppers from fraternities and sororities throughout the Southeast. Each year the show draws over 1000 people cheering and applauding for their favorite Greek organization or step teams. This year promises to be even better with original performances from the entire Divine Nine, representing universities across the Southeast!

The 23rd Annual Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Stepshow will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at the BJCC- Concert Hall. In honor of the show’s 23rd year, the show is titled “The Premiere.” Tickets are $12 in advance (with applicable fees) and $15 on the day of the show (with applicable fees). Tickets may be purchased online on Ticketmaster, any Ticketmaster locations, or at the BJCC.

The first Camille Armstrong Memorial Step Show was held in 1990 at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. This stepshow began as a student-driven initiative, intended to support the scholarship fund established in memory of the late Camille Armstrong. Camille was a graduating senior at UAB majoring in political science with a career goal of practicing law. She was tragically killed in an automobile accident on March 11, 1986, just weeks before receiving her degree.
Camille was involved in many student activities, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, served as a UAB Ambassador, and was best described as “a hard working, dedicated student.” The scholarship fund was established in 1987 to honor the memory of Camille and to preserve the spirit of the life she shared with us. In October 1992, the scholarship was endowed, thus ensuring its continuation.

The Camille Armstrong Memorial Scholarship Fund benefits deserving undergraduate African-American students at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, preferably in the Political Science field. Anyone interested in applying for the scholarship should contact the Office of Student Life at 205-934-8225.
